Friends of Unity September 2023 Blog Hop ~ Technique

Hello, friends! Welcome to our September Blog Hop.

I truly enjoyed creating the cards for our Techniques Cue

I chose to focus on a bit of monochromatic coloring, as well as, ink layering and ink accents.

When I first started watercoloring images I was so naïve to the difference layering colors and adding ink accents would bring my creations. Honestly, I didn't even know how. Now that I have captured these techniques my creations feel more alive!

For both cards I used 3 images and sentiment blocks from the new September KOM. This KOM is just incredible!

I love the different shades of brown in both her hair and the wheat stalks. Actually, I love the outcome of the hair and the wheat stalks on both cards

When I am working with watercolor markers sometimes I'll bring the marker to my paper and blend out with my paintbrush and sometimes I put the ink on a surface and pick it up with my brush.

I'll be honest, most of the time there is no rhyme or reason to how I create. I just kinda "go with the flow" the piece is taking on. Do you find that also to be true for you?

I love the look this grid background element gives this card. It would be incomplete without it. I stamped the wheat grain stalk directly over the grid and colored in layers with varying shades of brown. Going back over it with color until I achieved the look I was hoping for.

When finishing off a card I always add little bit of color to various areas that I want to stand out or "appear" shaded or shadowed. Followed by splatters and wisps of white ink.

I'm not sure which style I like best. Perhaps, the softer one. I do especially love how the wheat turned out on that one. ;)

As always, I would love to know which card is YOUR favorite!

I can't wait to hear about all the inspiration you received from my friends and I using todays Techniques cue! If I can leave you with one thing from this cue, always go back and see where you can add varied color and shade to your creation. Oh yea, and splatters are ALWAYS a good idea. ;)

I hope you’ll  join our Technique cue and create some new cards to share in Unity Show & Tell! Please, TAG ME if you do. I would truly love to see them!!

My hope is that you read through the entire blog. Makes my heart so happy thinking you do!

As always~

  3. Your cards always relay such a softness as if each comes with a caring hug enclosed. I prefer the darker of the two (maybe an old eyes requirement tee hee) regardless it is gorgeous. Annd then to see my name.... what a glorious surprise. Off to email you sweet Bobbie. Mwah. And Thank You!.

  4. I love your gorgeous cards with the same image but two different versions. I can't choose a favorite but I love your featured technique of laying stamps. I need to try multiple layering like you did. Varied color and shade is such a great tip and I will keep that in mind. I often don't go back and add to my card. I am going to do this - thanks for the reminder!

  6. I do love how wispy the wheat looks on the lighter card, but I love the darker one better overall. It just spoke to me right away. Both are just glorious to look at!

  10. I love your watercoloring style! I can always spot one of your creations in a heartbeat. Both cards are beautiful! I would not have thought of using the grid as a layer. It really does anchor the wheat. Brilliant!
