Hello, friends! Day 4 in my GIU week and I don't want it to end! The creations today used techniques I had never tried before. It was definitely a learning experience. They didn't turn out quite as I had envisioned, but I am happy with the results as a newbie to these techniques. I will absolutely be doing them again. It was fun trying new things!
This love card was my first go at trying masking fluid. I had to practice a few times with the liquid so that I could learn how it flows from the bottle. Also, since I was writing with it, I wanted to make sure my word was written legibly. The "e" is a bit thick, but overall I am really happy with the result!
I allowed the masking fluid to dry for about 20 minutes before I applied my color to the panel. You can see in this first photo the three distress ink colors I used, and the order I used them in. I love the look the Distress stencil brush gives as apposed to the Distress pads. I love using clear dew drops as it allows the color to shine through them. The word you is from the thank you stamp in the set "For the Guys". See the little heart peaking from inside? I love that little heart. It is from Poppies & Love.
I'd love to know how you have used masking fluid! I am eager to try again.
This next project was my first time making an eclipse card. It was a bit time consuming as I cut out and glued several letters together for the popped up effect. I did this so that foam dots would not show underneath. I did end up using for very thin foam dots that you can not see. I was going to also use the word thanks from Bouquet Bunch of Thanks (it is a really beautiful font), but decided to allow GIVE to stand alone. What an open-ended statement that word makes.
The letters were cut out using the Altenew Caps Bold Alphabet Die set. The pumpkin is from the September 2018 Kit of the Month. It is such a beautiful kit. I hadn't subscribed to KOM for a couple years. Until I saw this set. :) Another first with this card. I colored the pumpkin with my Prismacolor colored pencils that I had bought a few years ago to use in coloring books. Never to use in my cards. I like it. I will start using them more!
I will definitely be making more eclipse cards. Although time consuming, I do love the unique affect this technique gives. (Here's a funny for you. Can you believe I grappled with how to use the word affect. Here was my conclusion. The technique gave the affect. The card was the effect of the technique. Maybe I should have used the word impact. Ha. ;)
Be sure to leave a comment, here on my blog each day, for a chance to win 1 of 2 Unity prize packs. I will also be picking a winner to receive a separate prize pack from me!
I look forward to being with you all for my last day tomorrow as it will be all about mini calendars and memory dex cards!

ReplyDeleteSo happy to know this! Thank you, Kim! π€♥️π
DeleteLove both cards. I have the masking fluid and have never used it. Lol. Will have to experiment. I also have never tried an eclipse card. Looks very intimidating. I have the dies and the KOTM, now just to be braveπ³
ReplyDeleteBe brave, Debbie! π€π€ Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteI love the eclipse card. Here in Circleville Ohio we have a week long festival honoring the pumpkin.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Denise!! I really love the pumpkin!
DeleteWow. An awesome 2 cards. Thanks for sharing your creativity.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteVery cool cards! I haven’t used any of the techniques above: masking fluid, stencil brush, or eclipse card. This week you’re adding to my list of craft needs. I always struggle with affect vs effect. Thank goodness for other word options. Lol!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha glad I could be of help! Thank you, Holly!♥️
DeleteI've never used masking fluid and I'm not sure I've ever even seen anyone write with it; it was always about the masking. I love that you did that! And the 2nd card ... that is one of my very favorite techniques to see. I've only done it a couple of times myself and it's really a fun technique (even tho cutting through your coloring is very scary! lol). I love the Earthiness of that card. I love Fall time and all the colors that go with it.
ReplyDeleteI’m sure others have written with it, but now I want to see it. Lol thank you, Rebecca! π€
DeleteI can’t decide which card I like best because they are both wonderful. I have never done the masking fluid technique and I really love the way it looks. I am going to try that. Also I am so excited to make an eclipse card. Thank you again it’s been a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Rachel! I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed my week! ♥️
DeleteYour cards are wonderful. I have not yet, tried the eclise technique.

ReplyDeleteThank you! I’m so glad you are inspired now!!
DeleteI have been loving the September KOM too and doing that technique on the pumpkin is perfect. It is a beautiful card. I haven't used masking fluid yet (and somehow I have two bottles of it in my stash, lol) so I will give it a try after seeing your card.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Denise! I’m so glad you were inspired to try!
DeleteLove both cards I haven’t tried either of these techniques. I want to try the eclipse love, love, love that one.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cindy!!
DeleteGreat job with these new techniques. I haven't tried either of these.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sue!
DeleteThat eclipse card is gorgeous! I think I am going to CASE it this weekend. ❤️
ReplyDeleteNow that’s a compliment!! π€π€π€
DeleteGreat first attempts on both cards-techniques! I haven’t tried fluid masking yet but I recently started making Eclipse cards. You are right, they are time consuming but I love the ‘Impact they Give’ ;)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing your creations tomorrow <3
Ha! You read it!! π€π€♥️♥️
DeleteI love both cards, but the eclipse card is my favorite. I recently bought some masking fluid, but haven't yet used it. I also recently bought some adhesive foam sheets in black & white to try for eclipse cards. (I don't want to do all that layering! LOL) Thanks for the inspiration to tackle these new techniques!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Wilma! I love that you were inspired!! Share with me if you do!!
DeleteGreat cards! I haven't tried masking fluid yet but I have a bottle of it.... hope it hasn't dried out! Love your eclipse card! Beautiful pumpkin and embellishments!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteLove your eclipse card! I still need to try that
ReplyDeleteThank you! And I’m shocked you haven’t!
DeleteI love hearing, seeing, and learning about new techniques. Great job on the eclipse card. It's a stunning stamp and card. And love the love card. Very pretty colors. Both are lovely cards.
ReplyDeleteAppreciate this, Kim! Thank you!!
DeleteLove the Eclipse card especially with the word "Give". It makes me think of those surrounding me in NC who had devastating losses due to flooding from the hurricane. We will be Giving for quite some time! Pam Foy
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pam. Yes, my heart aches for them. We were devastated here in Houston ladt year so I know what they face. Prayers for all...
DeleteLove both cards But the pumpkin one is my favorite!I have this set so will case this card for sure. I have only used masking fluid to mask images never saw someone use to write great idea!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon! I hope you do! ♥️
DeleteLove your creativity, as usual, Bobbie Sue! I’ve only used masking fluid in paintings. I know how gloppy it is, so you did a great job with your writing! The eclipse card is stunning; love my Prismacolors!
ReplyDeleteThank you again, my friend! ♥️π€♥️
DeleteAwesome! Jo x
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jo!! XO
DeleteLoving both cards. ❤ I have never made an eclipse card, or used masking fluid. Must add large dies & fluid to Christmas wish list. Lol Thanks you for the inspiration. π
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Gina!! I hope you get it alllll!! π€π€
DeleteI have never tried making fluid. One to add to my craft bucket list.love the eclipse card too! Gotta go...my kids are screaming bc they just found a turtle! Lol
ReplyDeleteI hadn’t either girl but I’m eager to try it again! Thank you friend!
DeleteYou rocked those new techniques! I have wanted to do the eclipse card for a while but haven't done so yet. I love your fall one!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Beth! I am so surprised that you have not done an eclipse card! I can’t wait to see it!
DeleteBeautiful cards!! You rocked the techniques today! I have attempted the eclipse card a couple of times but I didn't like my results very much. I think though that you nailed it! Next time I try I'm going to do more layers for the die cuts. Thanks for the tip! I have used masking fluid but only to protect an image that I've colored... I adore this idea. I'm definitely going to try it!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, my friend! I actually cannot wait to make another one! I will only ever stack the letters I think it made it look so beautiful and well put together!
DeleteGorgeous cards, I have not tried either of these techniques, well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you so very much!
DeleteI was finally able to get in. Thanks for the close ups and explanations...I still think your cards look great! I will have never tried masking fluid and I don’t have a die cut to do an eclipse card but I think that may be in a future purchase?!π Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteOh I’m do glad! Thank you!!
DeleteWell, as two techniques you had never practiced before, I think you did a really good job !! I love masking fluid so much. It’s very convenient to preserve white spaces, for making stars in a sky for Instance. I can’t wait to see what you’re gonna make to end up this great week with you !! Love, Marjorie

ReplyDeleteThank you, Karen! ♥️
DeleteI love to fiddle with techniques: ) I have masking fluid & use it mostly for watercoloring. Love the fun way you applied it in your own handwriting, and I love pink : ) and, I love your Eclipse card. It is powerful with just the word GIVE!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Shelly! Yes! I love the one word statement!
DeleteAWESOME!!! Love them both!!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the pumpkin card! So cool!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dawn!!
DeleteWonderful cards! I bought masking fluid after one of the Graciellie releases because of a technique I saw on one of the blogs during the hop. I have yet to try it out but it's still on my mind.
ReplyDeleteBoth are great cards!!! So much fun trying different techniques!
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed learning from you this week! I can’t wait to try some new techniques this weekend it will be fun!!! I have had masking fluid sitting around gathering dust. You have inspired me to get it out and use what I have. As always love all that you do. Your heart is an inspiration ❤️
ReplyDeleteAgain 2 beautiful projects, love the pumpkin and letters!!
ReplyDeleteThe masking fluid is so handy, I often use it with waatercoloring when i want some spaces in the image white, to give some "shine"on petals for instance. Never thought of writing with it, great idea!!
AWWWWW these are such fantastic cards! I really like how you have the first card with the word LOVE where you said you did a masking fluids technique with it! I think it really looks lovely! And I love the 3 blended colors behind it! Very pretty looking! And your eclipse card is absolutely gorgeous looking!
